When The Obedience Of Faith Becomes Sight

Hebrews 11:1-40 | Genesis 6-9

Hebrews 11:3 “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.”
HEBREWS 11:7 “BY FAITH NOAH, BEING WARNED OF GOD of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and BECAME HEIR OF RIGHTEOUSNESS WHICH IS BY FAITH.”
Hebrews 11:13These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.”
Hebrews 11:2By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.”

• Grace accommodates Faith (by grace)
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved by faith
One can’t work without the other
• Faith activates fear (moved with fear)
Ecclesiastes 12:13…conclusion of whole matter, fear God….
• Fear motivates works (prepared an ark)
• Works generates fruit (to the saving of his house)
• Fruit replicates the command (God’s plan becomes apparent, it can be seen in the ark, animals, family, and everyone after that.

“The proof is in the pudding” or fruit so to speak

I. THE OBEDIENCE OF NOAH’s FAITH ALLOWED HIM TO SEE GOD’S PLAN UNFOLD (GENESIS 6:3-22)

Chapter 6:14 “make thee an ark…”
Chapter 6:22 “thus did Noah according to ALL that God commanded him, so did he.”

Noah had no idea how to build an ark, nor did he know how to retrieve two of every kind of animal on the earth.  BY FAITH; however, God allowed NOAH TO ENVISION EVERYTHING FROM THE FIRST BOARD TO SEEING THE ANIMALS COME TO THE ARK, TO BEING THE LAST TO ENTER THE ARK.

A. This plan was personal or individual
It starts with you.   It takes just a WORD FROM GOD.
Genesis 6:13 “AND GOD SAID UNTO NOAH”
God’s Plan of Faith begins with you, will you believe?

B. This plan was plural or universal
It affects all those that follow you and those around you.
God’s plan of faith blesses others through you

GOD HAS A PLAN FOR YOU, CARRY OUT HIS PLAN, BY FAITH, AND YOU WILL PHYSICALLY AND SPIRITUALLY BEGIN TO SEE IT.

II. THE OBEDIENCE OF NOAH’S FAITH ALLOWED HIM TO SEE GOD’S POWER UNLEASHED (GENESIS 6:13; 7:10-24)

Chapter 7:1 “And the Lord said unto Noah, Come thou and all they house into the ark…”

Chapter 7:9 “and there went…as God commanded Noah.”

  1. He saw God’s Power to destroy
  2. He saw God’s Power to deliver

The same water that drowned the world saved Noah as the ark floated.

GOD’S WORD WILL JUDGE YOU OR SAVE YOU

  • THE OBEDIENCE OF NOAH’S FAITH SAW GOD’S PROMISE UNVEILED (GENESIS 8: 1-14)

chapter 8: 15,16 “and God spake unto Noah, saying, go forth…”

chapter 8: 18 “and Noah went forth”

  1. There was a REMEMBERING (God remembered Noah, Genesis 8:1)
  2. There was a RESTING (ark rested)
  3. There was a REVELATION (because of the dove, Noah knew the ground was dry)
  4. There was a RAINBOW (assurance)

The application:  GENESIS 9:8-17 GOD’S COVENANT WITH NOAH TO NEVER JUDGE THE EARTH WITH WATER

Romans 5:1 “There is therefore now no condemnation to then that are in Christ Jesus.”

Ephesians 1:6 “To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.”

Thank God, we can see Christ as our ark, Christ as our Sacrifice, and Christ as our rainbow!

Hebrews 11:6But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

Faith, mighty faith, the promise sees,
And Looks to God alone;
Laughs at impossibilities,
And cries it shall be doneCharles Wesley

The eyes of the disobedient are quite sharp but, alas, all they see is the barrenness of the wilderness. Though those who proceed by faith may appear to be blind, for they do not notice the barrenness before them, yet their eyes of faith see the better promise which lies ahead.”Watchman Nee
